Röthbach Waterfall, Kuhflucht Falls, Rißloch Waterfalls —Bavaria has several impressive cascades to offer, some hundreds of meters high. But it doesn’t always take the most spectacular sight to leave a lasting impression. Sometimes it’s the smaller natural spectacles that turn out to be the greatest gems. The Sibli Waterfall in the region around Lake Tegernsee definitely falls into this category. Nestled in the middle of the forest, it rushes down the rocks and makes for a wonderful day trip destination.
The Magic of Nature in Every Season
The Sibli Waterfall is located in the Miesbach district and is tucked away in the woods between Tegernsee and Spitzingsee. It plunges about 15 meters into a pool that shimmers turquoise and invites you to take a dip on hot days. Below the tall main cascade, there are a few smaller cascades that splash over rocks and boulders. The Sibli Falls are particularly impressive after the snow melts or after prolonged rain. That’s when the flow intensifies and the water roars so loudly that you can barely hear each other.
In summer, thanks to its shady location, the Sibli Waterfall offers a pleasant getaway from the heat, where you can cool off in the water. In winter, it reveals its own magic when the water freezes on the rocks, forming amazing ice formations. Right in front of the falls are two benches where you can sit down and relax. To the left of the stream, you’ll also discover a grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary: Here, the Virgin Mary sits in a small rock cave, watching over the village.
Here’s how to get to the Sibli Waterfall
If you want to visit the Sibli Waterfall, it ’s best to start at the Kistenwinterstube. Here you can park your car or get off the bus if you’re traveling by public transit. From the Stube, it’s only a 20-minute walk to your destination, and the path takes you along a paved road. In the forest, you’ll eventually come across the Sibli Waterfall right near the Sibli Winter Hut, a beautiful wooden farmhouse.
After your break, you can either head back or venture further into the forest and hike to the nearby Rottach Waterfalls. These are better known than the Sibli Waterfall and, as a result, more popular, but you won’t encounter huge crowds here either. Both cascading waterfalls are ideal destinations for those of you who especially appreciate the peace and idyll of nature.
