It’s only been around two weeks since the large Eisbach wave in the English Garden was reopened for surfing. The rush was huge – no wonder, as the Eisbach wave is one of the most popular attractions in Munich. And all surfers can now look forward to even more good news: Munich is officially getting a second Eisbach wave.
Where will the second Eisbach wave be located?

The “E2”, as the second, smaller Eisbach wave is also known, has existed for some time. The new surf spot is also located in the English Garden, right next to the Dianabadschwelle. Until now, however, surfing was not possible there because access was virtually blocked by a fence on the west side. There has also been a fence on the east side since February 2025, which is almost directly on the water.
This is now set to change. On Wednesday morning, Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter and Prime Minister Markus Söder announced that the second Eisbach wave is coming to Munich. Access is to be possible from the west side by exchanging a plot of land there and thus transferring ownership to the City of Munich.
What are the general conditions there?
The general conditions are the same as at the large Eisbach wave at the Haus der Kunst: surfing is permitted at your own risk. The new rules at the well-known Eisbach wave now state that surfing is only permitted from 5:30 am to 10 pm and with an accompanying person. You may only surf with a self-opening leash so that you can detach yourself from your board in case of danger.
The “E2” wave is usually very flat and has significantly less pressure than the front Eisbach wave. It is therefore also suitable for less experienced surfers. Nevertheless, people with more surfing experience should take the opportunity to try out the new wave. More places to surf also means less waiting time!

When can the second Eisbach wave be used?
Even today, less experienced surfers were already in the water at the Dianabadschwelle. The Dianabadschwelle has always been the crowning glory of the “Eisbach Tour”, where you can drift through the entire stream and experience the wave by swimming. Until now, however, surfing was not officially permitted.
There is no specific start date yet, but according to Reiter, it should come “as soon as possible”. So you can be excited and look forward to it – Munich will be even livelier and richer by one special feature!
