Enjoy a Schmalznudel from Café Frischhut at the Viktualienmarkt

Munich has a seemingly endless selection of cafés, ranging from long-established and traditional to hip and trendy. Yet you’ll hardly find the so-called “Auszogne” anywhere. These are lard pastries made from yeast dough that are traditionally stretched over the knee and shaped before being deep-fried. That’s why they’re also called “Knieküchle” or “Schmalznudeln.” Finally, they’re tossed in sugar. You can get Schmalznudeln at Café Frischhut at the Viktualienmarkt for €3 each to go. While you enjoy the warm pastry, you can stroll past the market stalls and watch the bustling activity.
Watching dogs play by the Isar

A walk along the Isar is always a good idea, no matter the season. Here, you can soak up some nature right in the middle of the city and settle down on the riverbank when your legs get tired. If you’re heading to the Frühlingsanlagen, you can grab some drinks beforehand at one of the kiosks by the Reichenbach or Wittelsbacher bridges. To satisfy your hunger, grab a bánh mì at Chi Thu or a slice of pizza at Hungriges Herz on Frauenhoferstraße. Then nothing stands in the way of a relaxing evening by the Isar.
But the absolute highlight is the many dogs taking their walks along the river. Numerous dog owners bring their four-legged friends here after work, and the dogs frolic across the meadows or take a dip in the water. And what could be more joyful than watching a cute dog play?
