In the mood for an autumn with plenty of groove? Munich has the top jazz venues and plenty of unique spots just waiting to be discovered. This fall, concerts, jam sessions, and festivals all over the city will provide just the right groove.

At The Jazz Room, the sound of New Orleans comes to the Sudeten German House: The live show combines jazz classics with spontaneous improvisations, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a 1920s bar. The “A Journey to the Heart of New Orleans” series runs from October 10 through December 11; on November 22, the program also features a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong.
Django Reinhardt at the Gypsy Jazz Days
From October 20 to 25, the Gypsy Jazz Days celebrate music in the tradition of Django Reinhardt—with international guests and Munich-based musicians. The concerts take place at various venues, including the Institut français, Einstein Kultur, the Fraunhofer Theater, and the Silbersaal at the Deutsches Theater. For the finale on October 25, Django Orchestrated will perform rarely heard pieces by Reinhardt with a large band on the stage of the Theater Drehleier.
Play along and dance at Giesinger Bahnhof

Those who prefer to experience jazz spontaneously and up close will find the perfect spot at Titus Waldenfels ’ monthly session at the Giesinger Bahnhof . On November 23, musicians will gather there for an open jazz session; the evening combines live music with swing dancing.
Four Days of Jazz Festival at Four Different Venues
The Munich Jazz Festival will take place throughout the city from November 23 to 26: The four-day program features nine concerts and a panel discussion. Performances will take place at venues including the Spin Bar, the Sudeten German House, the Freies Musikzentrum, and the Neue Ziegelei. The lineup includes the Wood & Steel Trio, Michael Schiefel, and the Rebecca Trescher Tentett.
Jazz History in the Silbersaal
The Munich Jazz Salon, held in the Silbersaal of the Deutsches Theater, is dedicated to the genre’s most influential figures. On October 29 , Roberto Di Gioia, Tony Lakatos, and former Passport bandmates will explore the music of Klaus Doldinger; this will be followed on November 28 by an evening dedicated to John Coltrane. In this way, big names from jazz history meet musicians from the Munich scene.
Whether it’s an intimate session, Django swing, or an entire festival weekend: Munich’s Jazz Autumn takes place all over the city and invites you to go on a journey of discovery beyond the well-known jazz clubs. It’s best to check the current dates and ticket availability directly with the organizers.
