Before Import Export moved to the Kreativquartier, its first venue was located near Munich’s main train station: in a former Turkish supermarket on Goethestraße. In 2010, the project emerged from “Munich Central” at the Münchner Kammerspiele. After the project ended, the Kunstzentrat association took over the venue and continued to operate it as Import Export.

From a Turkish supermarket to a cultural hotspot
In September 2014, a new chapter began for Import Export: the cultural venue moved to the creative quarter on Dachauer Straße, where a former metalworking shop became a stage for international artists, concerts, and creative experiments. Nestled among old industrial buildings, a vibrant gathering place emerged that offers far more than just traditional entertainment.
What has distinguished Import Export since its inception has remained the same: bringing together people from a wide variety of backgrounds and scenes and creating space for new ideas. Today, you’ll find this sociocultural venue at Schwere-Reiter-Straße 2h.
From experimental sounds to rock classics by candlelight
The program at Import Export shows that Munich has far more to offer musically than just classical concerts. On November 14, the Texas-based collective Water Damage will bring its experimental drone sound to the creative district. Those who prefer to experience rock music in a completely different musical style can look forward to “Candlelight: A Tribute to Metallica” at the Auferstehungskirche on the same day. There, the metal band’s legendary songs will be reinterpreted by a string quartet by the light of thousands of candles.
