The Wiesn is known to be the biggest folk festival in the world, but Bavaria has much more to offer than its headliner. Especially in the fall, there are many other folk festivals that take place in and around Munich that you should pay a visit to. We present 7 other folk festivals if you want to continue celebrating before or after the Oktoberfest, or if you prefer less hustle and bustle.
Regensburg Herbstdult
The Herbstdult takes place in Regensburg every year. There are two festival tents with a changing music program. A pint of beer costs €12.90 this year, which is definitely a saving compared to the Wiesn. In addition to the Warendult, where you can shop, there are also rides as usual. New attractions include the “Ghost Villa” and the “U 3000” diving simulation.
📍Location: Dultplatz at the Protzenweiher, Regensburg
📅 Dates: 29.08.-14.09.2025
Nuremberg Autumn Folk Festival

The Nuremberg Folk Festival takes place at the same time as the Regensburg Herbstdult. The largest traditional festival in northern Bavaria with up to 2 million visitors has a lot up its sleeve again this fall. The backdrop in front of the old congress hall is more than impressive. New this year: the 80s Day on September 4 for all those who want to take a nostalgic trip. The event concludes with a fireworks display on September 14.

Freising folk festival

The Freisinger Volksfest once again offers a colorful program. Take part in the Volksfest Run on September 6, find love at the Singles Night on September 9 or dance to 90s hits on September 11. With “Robotix” and “Avenger”, two rides celebrate their premiere.

Passau Autumn Fair
The Herbstdult in Passau takes place at the same time as the folk festival in Freising. In classic folk festival style, you will also find festival tents, fun rides and delicacies here. As at the Wiesn, there is also a wheat beer carousel. Enjoy your beer while you spin at the incredible speed of an escalator!

Ingolstadt Autumn Folk Festival

The folk festival in Ingolstadt is celebrating its 50th anniversary! To celebrate, there will be discounts at all stores and in the festival tents on September 29. Fireworks await you on the Day of German Unity and the Kocherl Ball takes place on October 5th.

Cannstatter Wasen
Admittedly, Stuttgart is no longer part of Bavaria, but the Wasen is simply cult. What’s more, Stuttgart can be reached within two hours by train, similar to Passau. The Wasen also offers large beer halls and many rides like the Wiesn and is one of the largest folk festivals in the world with around 4 million visitors a year. If you can’t get enough of the Oktoberfest and are looking for something of a similar caliber after it ends, then visit the Cannstatter Wasen.

Auer Kirchweihdult
There are other folk festivals in Munich besides the Wiesn. The Auer Dult takes place three times a year on Mariahilfplatz. Here you can feast and store at 250 stalls or venture onto one of the rides. As at the Oktoberfest, Tuesday is family day, when you can enjoy discounts.
