Carnival

An absolute must in February is the Fasching in Munich from February 1 to 17. Look forward to a varied program with stages on Marienplatz and Karlsplatz, where numerous music and dance groups perform during the Fasching days. The Pumuckl Faschingsball for the whole family kicks things off on February 1. On the following Sunday, the Damischen Ritter will once again parade through the city together with numerous dance groups and bands, and on “Unsinnigen Donnerstag” (Fat Thursday) on February 12, the carnival societies will create a lively atmosphere at the Viktualienmarkt. As always, the highlight is the dance of the market women on February 17, which also heralds the finale.

The action continues on February 21 with Shindy, who will rock the Zenith. Last but not least, Jason Derulo will be tearing up the dance floor at the Olympiahalle on February 26.
Washing your wallet on Ash Wednesday

This year, the traditional money bag washing will once again take place on Ash Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Marienplatz. Mayor Dieter Reiter and other representatives of the city will symbolically dip Munich’s city coffers into the fish fountain at Marienplatz. This is supposed to bring money into the city’s coffers and marks the beginning of Lent. On this occasion, the mayor will also receive the key to the town hall back from the carnival prince and princess. There will be free beer for the spectators.
