Munich will soon become even more attractive, sporty and youth-friendly. There are already many great ideas for activities with children and numerous sports facilities, but the city is now going one better. The redesign of the Fasangarten was planned for a long time and now the building department has unanimously voted in favor of implementing the plans. We explain everything you need to know about the new Red Dragon leisure center in Fasangarten on Lincolnstrasse.
Sport, games, skating: what is planned?
The main attraction will be a new “street style” skate park made of concrete. Not only skaters, but also scooter and BMX riders will find a new home for their hobby here. Residents have also been considered: protective walls will be erected to the west and south. The back of these walls will be used directly as a climbing wall, with many handholds and footholds transforming the wall into a sports facility.
Green spaces are to be created around the skate park, inviting people to relax. A basketball court will also provide recreational fun: at 27 by 15 meters, the planned court will even be tournament-sized. And the summer will be perfect, as the new leisure facility will also have a beach volleyball court. To the south, a parkour facility will round off the varied offer.
All according to your wishes: How did this come about?
For a long time, young people have wanted the leisure center to be improved. They were able to put forward their wishes in several participation formats – discussions then went on for eight years. It took so long because all applications had to be discussed in detail with three neighbors due to the complicated property situation. The city, the Federal Agency for Real Estate and the Thomas Wimmer Foundation were responsible.
Even though the planning took a long time, things can now get underway. The new leisure facility should finally be able to open in 2026. Out of consideration for local residents, the opening times are limited: From Monday to Saturday you will be able to use the facility from 8 am to 10 pm, on Sundays and public holidays from 9 am to 10 pm. But it won’t be dark here – the facility will also be illuminated until 10 pm.
