The flagship of basketball in the city is FC Bayern München Basketball. The sports team has already celebrated several successes at national and international level. These include six titles as German champions and five cup victories. FC Bayern Munich Basketball even became the first German team to reach the quarter-finals of the EuroLeague.
The team plays its home games in the SAP Garden in the Olympiapark. The new arena was not completed until 2024 and cost around 150 million euros. Munich clubs: get active yourself
Instead of just watching the professional athletes, many clubs in Munich offer opportunities to get involved. The München Baskets have been a basketball club for 50 years and have 22 teams in the youth and adult sections. The first women’s team has already won the German Cup five times and was German champion. Due to a lack of sponsors, the team still plays in the regional league.
MTSV Schwabing is located in the heart of Munich and offers ten youth teams in addition to men’s teams. Young talents are forged at the international basketball academy in Munich, TSV München Ost impresses with its great youth work and TSV Schleissheim shapes the basketball culture in the north of Munich.
The best places: up to the baskets!
There are basketball courts all over Munich, inviting you to take the ball in your own hands. At Neuhofener Berg (Wacker) you can shoot a few baskets: There is a hidden park between the lanes that very few people know about. The popular Maßmannpark offers a basketball court for strong players. There is even seating for spectators and substitutes. There is always something going on in the northern part of Luitpoldpark and basketball fans can meet like-minded people: The fullcourt with two baskets is equally popular with all levels of players.
