In recent years, prices have risen in most areas of life throughout Germany, and the restaurant trade is no exception. The annual uproar over Oktoberfest beer prices has almost become a tradition. Positive news such as falling electricity prices or a higher minimum wage are a welcome change. And a pub owner from Munich is also bucking the trend of increasingly expensive beer. Right in the heart of the city, where costs are usually the highest, the traditional pub Donisl is lowering its beer price.

The Donisl has been around for more than 300 years, making it one of the oldest pubs in the city. Located directly on Marienplatz, it is a central point of contact for visitors to the city center, especially tourists. Until a few months ago, this was also reflected in the price of the beer : a half pint from a wooden barrel cost €6.20. To everyone’s surprise, this changed in August. Since then, the pub has been offering its beer for €4.90.
At the new Stehausschank in front of the Donisl, you had already been able to get a Halbe for this price since it opened this year. Adjusting the price within the pub was the logical consequence of this, says landlord Peter Reichert. Guests can now enjoy the cheaper Halbe every day of the week and not just on the four days when the Stehausschank is open. The Pfiff now only costs €4.30 and the Maß €9.80. The wheat beer on tap, on the other hand, is still €6.20.
Less is more at Donisl

The price reduction at Donisl is not just a pure adjustment to its own Stehausschanke. It is also assumed that guests are more likely to buy two or three beers if they are cheaper. In addition, once the thirst for beer has been quenched, hunger sets in and a meal is ordered in addition to the drinks. And there’s plenty of that at the Donisl.
Whether you’re a meat eater or a vegetarian, everyone will find something to their liking at this traditional pub. You can even find vegan dishes on the menu. Schnitzel, snacks, dumplings, noodle pans, mushrooms – the Donisl serves you the best of Bavarian cuisine. There is also musical accompaniment to make the pub experience perfect. When the half pint only costs €4.90, a visit is definitely worth considering.
