With service restrictions already in place on the U4 and U5 lines in eastern Munich, the tram is now also affected. Due to construction work on the Tram 21 and N19 routes, public transit riders must now expect further changes between Ostbahnhof and downtown. From Tuesday, October 27, through Wednesday, November 18, there will be detours and the use of replacement buses.
Rail replacement service and detours

In addition to construction work at Max-Weber-Platz and in Neuperlach on the subway, track renovations are now also taking place above ground. In the Kreillerstraße area, the MVG is carrying out track construction work for four weeks, which is why both tram line 21 and the N19 night line must be rerouted. The detour runs via Einsteinstraße and Grillparzerstraße toward the Berg am Laim S-Bahn station.
Construction work on the Tram 21 and N19 routes will begin on Tuesday, October 27, starting around 1:30 a.m. It is expected to last until Wednesday, November 18, at 4:30 a.m. During this time, replacement buses will operate along the regular tram route between Ostbahnhof and St.-Veit-Straße. These buses will run at the same frequency as trams 21 and N19. Passengers heading toward St.-Veit-Straße should board the bus at Ostbahnhof; if you’re heading toward downtown, take the SEV from Haidenaustraße.

Additional restrictions on rail service

The construction work on the tram line in eastern Munich coincides with service disruptions on the subway in Neuperlach and at Max-Weber-Platz. In addition, work on the U3 and U6 lines is currently in its second phase, which is why there are also disruptions to public transit in the south. As a result, only three subway lines will be operating normally until the end of November. Long-distance and regional rail service will also be affected starting in late October, with closures between Ingolstadt and Nuremberg, so you should expect longer travel times when traveling north from Munich.
