They look like real fruit, but in reality , they’re a sweet dessert that’s been making the rounds on social media for quite some time. People travel all the way to Paris just to try the original Cédic-Grolet fruits or set out in search of the perfect knockoffs. Until now, we in Munich had to do without them or make the trip to Finning to the Pâtisserie Süßwahn, where the viral dessert has been available for 10 years. But recently, this dessert has finally become available in Munich as well.
The Origins of Fruit Cakes
Cédric Grolet’s “Fruits” have been around since 2012 and originated in Paris. Pastry chef Cédric Grolet created this delicacy during his time at the Hotel Le Meurice. They consist of a cream filling with a core of fruit purée, encased in crisp white chocolate that is sprayed and painted to look like real fruit. Since 2018, Cédric Grolet has had his own pâtisserie at the Meurice, where he sells the fruits.
German pastry chefs were inspired by the creation from France and soon created their own versions of the Cédric Grolet fruits. The dessert arrived in Germany years ago, but it wasn’t until TikTok and similar platforms that it really took off. Influencers and content creators travel to Paris or across Germany to try the fruity desserts and share their taste tests on social media.
Cédric Grolet’s “Fruits” in Munich
Although there are numerous great cafés, bakeries, and pâtisseries in Munich, the trend didn’t reach our city until early 2026. If you’d like to try one of the Cédric Grolet “Fruits,” you can do so at Wakil’s Café in the Olympia Shopping Center. In addition to this viral dessert, you can sample all kinds of other treats here, such as cakes, crêpes, and bubble waffles. So it’s worth a visit even if you’re not interested in a dupe of the Cédric Grolet fruit cakes.
If, on the other hand, you’re eager to try the Fruit Cakes, they cost €11.90, and you can look forward to a wide selection. They come in all sorts of flavors, such as mango, raspberry, pistachio, or even acorn! Each dessert contains pieces of fruit, giving them a particularly fresh taste. Occasionally, there are special editions, such as the One-Piece Edition, where the creations look like the Devil Fruits from the anime.

Cédric Grolet Dups in Downtown Munich
If the trip to the OEZ is too far for you, though, you’ll also find them downtown. Maelu near Odeonsplatz now carries the Cédric Grolet fruits as well. Here, you can choose between mango, strawberry, and lemon. The selection is smaller than at Walki’s and, on top of that, even more expensive: one of these little treats costs 15€!
The location is super central, and the long-established Maelu has been serving all kinds of other French pastries since 1995. From macarons to croissants to delicate tartlets, you can really treat your taste buds here. The pastry chefs on site know their craft and deliver the very best quality. So if you ever want to treat yourself, stop by and try this fruity dessert inspired by Cédric Grolet.
