From nightclubs to restaurants to stores, we’ve already seen quite a few closures in Munich this year. Now Depot im Tal is joining that list. But before that happens, you still have a few days left to hunt for bargains and snag some huge discounts. That’s because Depot’s big clearance sale has begun.
The End for Depot: The Brand Is Set to Survive
Depot filed for bankruptcy back in 2024. This year marks its temporary closure: Nearly 100 lease agreements have been terminated in total, and over 1,000 employees have been laid off. In Munich, too, two locations—the stores in Hofstatt and the Riem Arcaden— have already closed. Now it’s the turn of the Depot store in the Tal, which will only be open for you this week. All of the lease agreements expire on September 30.
Nevertheless, Christian Gries , the owner of the Franconian company, intends to keep the Depot brand alive. Operations will primarily continue online, but also in the approximately 50 remaining stores that are not on the list for closure. He plans to transfer Depot to a new company and negotiate new leases with the landlords. Exactly how things will proceed starting in October and how many stores will ultimately survive remains to be seen.
