It’s official: Munich will once again host top-tier European soccer! At its meeting in Thessaloniki, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that the 2028 Men’s Champions League Final will once again be held at the Allianz Arena.
Following the last Champions League final in Munich in 2025 , the state capital is bringing club soccer’s most coveted final back to Fröttmaning. A total of three finals have already been held at the Olympic Stadium (1979, 1993, and 1997) and two at the Allianz Arena (2012 and 2025). Saturday, May 27, 2028, will be the big day: That’s when Europe’s two best men’s soccer teams will battle it out at the Allianz Arena for the coveted trophy. For all soccer fans in Munich and around the world, this means days of extraordinary excitement in the city once again.
More than just 90 minutes: What soccer fans can expect in Munich
Of course, the city on the Isar wants to show itself in the best possible light during this major event. In addition to the usual spectacle on game day, you can look forward to an extensive Champions Festival and numerous fan activities throughout the city in the days leading up to the match. Even before the decision was announced, Mayor Dominik Krause emphasized how successfully the city had organized the 2025 final. He noted that hosting another final would be an excellent opportunity to show the world that Munich is a “cosmopolitan, sports-loving, and capable host city.”
Munich is also already looking ahead to further sporting milestones: In addition to being awarded the 2031 World Championships in Athletics, the city also intends to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040, or 2044—a decision on which will be made on September 26.
Whether you manage to snag one of the coveted seats at the Allianz Arena or cheer them on at a public viewing event around the city, an unforgettable sports weekend awaits you in this soccer capital!
