
Munich already has a lot to offer and the surrounding area in particular is known worldwide for its beautiful nature. But a bit of sun and the sea are sometimes missing. That will change from April: A train connection to Italy will take you directly from Munich to the south in just a few hours. To get to your vacation paradise quickly, you don’t always have to fly. International train journeys are a particularly sustainable alternative to flying and are becoming increasingly popular in Germany. A new Railjet operated by Deutsche Bahn and the Austrian Federal Railways now runs from Munich to the Adriatic. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the new rail route.
When does it start?

The train connection to Italy will start in just a few weeks. The new Railjet 83 will depart from Munich for the first time on April 17. It will depart from Munich Central Station at 9.33 am. After a journey time of 9 hours and 37 minutes, the train will arrive in Ancona, the capital of the Marche region on the Adriatic, shortly after 7 pm. Enough time to watch a movie during the journey or read the book that has been waiting for us for so long.
Where does the train stop?
On its way to Italy, the train also stops in Munich East and Rosenheim before continuing directly to Austria. The train travels via Kufstein, Innsbruck and Bolzano, among other places. And it is also easy to stop directly at other popular vacation destinations: the Railjet also stops in Verona, Bologna and Rimini. The train makes a total of 20 stops, taking youdirectly to the Mediterranean in just a few hours.
How much does the train connection to Italy cost?
Initially, the journey will not be cheap: according to Rail Europe, a standard ticket in second class costs 159.05 euros. But it’s worth planning early, as tickets are available for just over 80 euros at the beginning of May, for example. And soon there will be even more alternatives available that will take you directly from Munich to Italy. From mid-July, three night train lines will return to Munich. You will then be able to travel to La Spezia, Rome and Venice in your sleep. That means summer can come!
