It’s the news all Munich residents have been waiting for (or maybe not): The City of Munich has scrapped the plans for Sendling’s most notorious construction project. The “Sendlinger Loch” was supposed to be home to the city’s most beautiful apartments. But as any walk around the construction site shows: this project has been neglected for far too long. Finally, the city has stepped in and unveiled a revolutionary idea —the “Sendlinger Loch Water Park” is now opening here, a floating paradise right in the heart of the neighborhood!
From “eyesore” to the “infinity pool” of the south
After numerous investors and construction plans literally went down the drain, the city administration is now taking action. “If we can’t get rid of the water, then we’ll just make the best of it, ”explained a spokeswoman for the Department of Urban Planning. And that’s exactly what’s happening.
The project aims to transform the 12-meter-deep pit into an adventure pool. The plans sound almost too good to be true: Munich’s groundwater will be purified through a filtration system so you can go swimming right in the middle of the city without any problems. The surrounding walkways will be covered with 200 tons of sand so you can really make yourselves at home here. So we won’t have to drive out to the Munich suburbs anymore to take a dip in the cool water this summer.
When does it start?

The opening is already planned for next summer. “The pit is already there,” according to City Hall. The final plans are now set to be approved quickly, and construction will then begin. We’re already looking forward to swimming our first laps at the Sendlinger Loch Water Park in the summer of 2026. Pack your swimsuits— Sendling is getting wet!
