Deutsche Bahn and Munich are always a topic of conversation. Renovation work is carried out at regular intervals on the main lines in the state capital. Particularly far-reaching restrictions are now on the agenda again: Between Friday, May 9, and Monday, May 12, large-scale timetable changes in Munich are now on the cards again. If you want to travel by bus or train, you will have to be prepared for numerous restrictions and service interruptions.
Deutsche Bahn has announced its maintenance weekend for the second weekend in May. This means that DB is bundling a wide variety of construction measures and working on tracks, points and stations at the same time. Work is also continuing on the new electronic interlocking at Ostbahnhof and on the 2nd main line in Laim. The aim is to complete the lines and projects as quickly as possible.
Railroad renovation work – extensive timetable changes in Munich
Passengers must be prepared for extensive timetable changes in Munich. During the work from Friday, 10.20 p.m. to Monday, 4.40 a.m., the following cancellations and replacement services are on the schedule:
- During the entire closure period (between Pasing and Leuchtenbergring/Giesing), no train service is possible on the S-Bahn tracks.
- Apart from the S7, which does not run through the main line, all lines start and end early or are rerouted.
- The S1 only runs between Freising/Flughafen and the main station (without a stop between Moosach and the main station). Some trains already start and end in Moosach (U3).
- In the east, the S2 only runs between Erding and Leuchtenbergring. In the west, it runs every half hour between Petershausen and Heimeranplatz (U4/U5) – the stop between Obermenzing and Heimeranplatz is omitted.
- The S3 only runs between Mammendorf and Pasing and between Giesing (U2) and Holzkirchen.
- The S4 only runs between Geltendorf and Pasing.
- The S5 only runs between Kreuzstraße and Giesing (U2).
- The S6 only runs between Tutzing and Hauptbahnhof (without a stop between Pasing and Hauptbahnhof) and between Leuchtenbergring and Ebersberg.
- The S7 runs on its regular route between Wolfratshausen and the main station. At night, however, there will be some changes to the timetable.
- The S8 will be rerouted via the Südring – the stop between Ostbahnhof and Pasing and at Leuchtenbergring will be canceled.
Nevertheless, you will still get to your destination at the weekend: Between Pasing and the main station, a bus replacement service runs every 10 minutes with stops at all stations. Bus 130 also connects Pasing with Westendstraße (U4/U5). In addition, the S-Bahn has commissioned MVG to extend the U4 from Theresienwiese to Westendstraße during the day. From Monday, everything will be back to normal – the next maintenance weekend is certain to come, but is not planned for the time being.
