Germany boasts many beautiful theme parks such as Phantasialand and Hansapark. With Europapark, we can even call the best theme park in the world our own. But other countries also shine with their attractions, such as the French Parc Astérix, which is entirely dedicated to the Gallic comic heroes. Now this park is to have a German offshoot, which will also be the first of its kind outside France.
The transformation of the Belantispark

Belantispark near Leipzig is the largest amusement park in central Germany and boasts 60 attractions in eight themed areas. In spring 2026, a new Idefix adventure world dedicated to Obelix’s dog is to be added, heralding the gradual transformation of the park. By 2030 or 2031, the park will be transformed into a German offshoot of the French Parc Astérix. With 2.8 million visitors a year, it is the third most visited theme park in France and the eighth most visited in Europe.
It was only in April of this year that the Belantis park in Saxony was taken over by the French Compagnie des Alpes, which also owns nine other theme parks, including the Walibi parks and Parc Astérix. The park was previously owned by the Spanish company Parques Reunidos, which bought Belantis in 2018.
A park with growth potential

After France, Germany is the country with the second-largest sales of Asterix comics. Germany is also the second-largest European market for theme parks. The conclusion to open an Asterix park here is therefore obvious. Belantis is a very good choice due to its location, as it has a growing catchment area due to its proximity to Leipzig. Berlin is also not too far away and its central location means that it is also easily accessible from other parts of Germany.
Belantis currently has an area of 80 hectares, 41 of which are reserved for growth. The park therefore has the potential to be expanded and offer even more themed worlds and attractions. The complete transformation into a German Parc Astérix is to take place over the next 5 to 6 years, so that you will be able to visit the new theme park in 2030 or 2031. It takes about 5 hours to get to Belantispark from Munich, so an overnight stay in a hotel or other accommodation is recommended.
