Munich is getting a new, fairy-tale-like highlight that’s guaranteed to enchant you! Starting October 3, 2026, a temporary interactive exhibition will arrive in the Bavarian capital. The Prague-based artists’ collective led by Matěj Forman will transform the Literaturhaus München into the IMAGINARIUM. The result will be a fascinating, walk-through labyrinth of colorful stage sets, traditional marionettes, and enchanted worlds. To mark the Czech Republic ’s appearance as Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the gallery is bringing a vibrant storytelling tradition to Munich—one that is even recognized as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. We’ll tell you why you absolutely shouldn’t miss this spectacle for young and old alike!
An analog journey of discovery into a fairy-tale world
The IMAGINARIUM is by no means an ordinary art exhibition where you simply stroll quietly through the rooms. Here, the stories come to life right before your eyes! A playful universe full of intricate works of art awaits you—one where participation is expressly encouraged. Your children can take part in interactive dice games, discover their own little movie theater, or even participate in real puppet shows and stage their own adventures. Artist Matěj Forman sums it up perfectly: “I’m convinced that with the IMAGINARIUM, we get much closer to the human soul and the human heart than the digital world ever can.” Since there are countless charming details to explore, the exhibition is perfect for children ages 6 and up.
