Live music in Munich doesn’t have to be expensive : In October, you can discover free concerts and festival performances—from international sounds at the INTERKULT Festival to blues at the Neue Ziegelei. We’ve put together four tips for free events and are adding a highly recommended jazz evening at the Sudetendeutschen Haus, for which you’ll need a ticket.
Opening Concert of the Interkult Festival
On Thursday, October 8, from 7 to 9 p.m., “CROSsing over” will kick off the INTERKULT Festival at Kultur im Trafo. The concert will feature a range of styles, from experimental Baroque music and contemporary classical to Cuban rhythms; admission is free, and donations are welcome. The venue is a cultural and community center for Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, where local clubs, artists, and initiatives find their own spaces and stages.
Indie Funk: Live in the Foyer at RES3RVE
Also: On Thursday, October 8, from 8 to 10 p.m., RES3RVE will perform at Kulturhaus Neuperlach. The band brings groovy indie funk and thought-provoking, ironic lyrics—this time also in unplugged versions with a dash of swing. Admission is free. With its cultural program, KulturBunt Neuperlach is an important hub for live music and events in the neighborhood.
Digitalanalog Festival
The DIGITALANALOG FESTIVAL will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, at the Muffatwerk. The opening event on Friday is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.; the festival will then take place in various areas of the venue and offer concerts with free admission. The Muffatwerk itself is well worth a visit: The former turbine hall of the historic hydroelectric power plant is now home to the Muffathalle, which, with its high, open roof structure, provides a unique setting for concerts.
Faces of the Blues at the Neue Ziegelei
And finally: On Saturday, October 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., the “Faces of the Blues” exhibition will come to a close with a musical closing event at the Neue Ziegelei. Admission is free; blues music and a poetry reading will turn the closing event itself into a live experience. The Neue Ziegelei is located in Prinz-Eugen-Park and is an open center for culture and social engagement that facilitates both events and community gatherings in the neighborhood.
Whether you let yourself be swept away by indie funk, listen to blues stories, or discover new musical perspectives—these events showcase the diversity of Munich’s live music scene. And if you’d like to treat yourself to another evening of music afterward, The Jazz Room at the Sudeten German House will take you on a musical journey to New Orleans with jazz classics and improvisations. The approximately one-hour show combines jazz classics with improvisations and costs 23.50 euros and up. The venue provides a fitting cultural setting: The Sudeten German Foundation supports events there that highlight the cultural life of the former Sudeten German regions.
