By now, we all know that the stores not only close early on Christmas Eve, but also that they stay closed on December 25 and 26. Nevertheless, it still happens time and time again that we forget about the holidays or that we forget something. We often frantically ask our trusted search engine for an alternative or, out of necessity, ring our neighbor’s doorbell. This is not necessarily necessary, as some Munich stores are also open on public holidays. So shopping at Christmas is still possible in the city on the Isar.
Shopping at Christmas: Groceries
If there’s one thing we’re missing at Christmas, it’s usually food. You’re standing in the kitchen, wanting to conjure up a wonderful meal for your loved ones, only to realize with horror that an essential ingredient is missing. To avoid having to improvise, only to end up with a worse result, you should visit one of the following stores:

📍 Location: Lidl, Hackerbrücke
🕐 Opening hours: December 25 & 26 from 9 am to 7 pm
Lidl on Hackerbrücke is still an insider tip, as it has only been open on Sundays and public holidays since September. What’s more, unlike the supermarkets at the train stations, it doesn’t mark up the prices. The Rewe To Go at the main station, on the other hand, no longer exists and is therefore no longer a shopping option on public holidays.
Shopping at Christmas: Drugstore
If you have all your groceries together but are short of hygiene or household items, you don’t have to make any compromises over the holidays. Or perhaps you still need one last gift for a visit on the 25th and 26th. The drugstore is also an excellent option here and the dm at Ostbahnhof is your salvation. It also has a selection of groceries and frozen food that you won’t find in regular dm stores.

Other options for shopping at Christmas are all Aralt petrol stations with a Rewe To Go, as well as other petrol stations. There are also some kiosks and vending machines where you can get supplies if you are in doubt:
