Any plans for Halloween yet? If you’re looking for more than just costumes and candy, you can spend a varied festival day at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk in Munich: from mysterious tours and a children’s concert to a reading, dinner, party, and live metal. And if you still haven’t had enough after that, here’s another tip for even more Halloween flair!
From a Former Heating Plant to an Art Power Plant
The Bergson Kunstkraftwerk is located in a former heating plant in Aubing, whose history dates back to the Nazi era. The Munich Reichsbahn Directorate began planning the building in 1937 as part of a major railway project; construction began in 1940, but the war halted the project before it could be completed. Starting around 1955, the railway used the preserved building structure as a heating plant. After it was decommissioned, the hall became a “lost place,” was occasionally used for illegal techno raves, and was eventually designated a historic landmark. In 2024, following its renovation, it opened as a cultural venue featuring a concert hall, gallery, and dining facilities.
What’s happening at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk
At the Bergson Halloween Festival, you can put together your own spookily wonderful festival day: Starting at 1 p.m., an audiovisual tour through the concert hall and mystical guided tours through the gallery will take you into the mysterious corners of the building. Also on the program are the family concert “Sarah and the Bat,” a Halloween edition of the Lucky Punch Comedy Club, and the music journalism evening “True Crime in Music” about Tchaikovsky’s mysterious death. In the evening, you can take a break with dinner at the Zeitlang restaurant, attend Jaroslav Rudiš’s reading, or party late into the night at the Halloween party and Metal Night.
Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy in Munich
Here’s another spooky recommendation for anyone who loves to immerse themselves in literary horror stories: At the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy in Munich, live storytelling, a 19th-century-style theatrical setting, and four specially crafted cocktails come together. This immersive cocktail experience draws on themes from stories such as “The Raven” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.” A scheduled event will take place on November 13, 2026, at the Sudetendeutsches Haus—two weeks after Halloween.
