On the eastern shore of Lake Starnberg, you’ll find a very special destination. In the municipality of Münsing—more specifically, in the picturesque district of Ammerland—Vicco von Bülow, better known as Loriot, spent nearly five decades of his life.

A trip to Ammerland begins with a leisurely stroll through the village. Take a leisurely stroll toward the water. The lakeside path, lined with old ash and linden trees and accompanied by the gentle lapping of the lake, exudes the kind of atmosphere that has always attracted creative minds.

A stone smile: The Loriot monument in Münsing
After a relaxing nature experience on the lakeshore, the town center of Münsing offers the perfect way to round out your trip. The town has erected a wonderful monument to its most famous honorary citizen.
Right in the center of town, you’ll find the “Herren im Bad” (Gentlemen in the Bath). Dr. Klöbner and Mr. Müller-Lüdenscheidt sit here peacefully in a stone bathtub (complete with a rubber duck, of course). This charming work of art is the perfect way to wrap up your trip along the paths of the great humorist.
Practical Tips: How to Get There
By public transit: From Munich, it’s best to take the S-Bahn (S6 toward Starnberg/Tutzing or S7 toward Wolfratshausen) and transfer at the terminal stations to regional bus 971, which will take you directly to Münsing.
By car: From Munich, take the A95 (exit at Wolfratshausen or Seeshaupt) to reach your destination in about 40 minutes. Parking is available in Münsing and, in some cases, near the lake access points.
