The next time you pack your bags in Munich for your next trip, you’ll be departing from an award-winning airport. Munich Airport was named the best airport in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the 2026 Business Traveler Awards DACH. At the awards ceremony held at the NH Collection Frankfurt Spin Tower, Managing Director Dr. Jan-Henrik Andresson personally accepted the trophy. The award, presented to mark the magazine’s 50th anniversary, is based on the votes of a panel of experts as well as reader feedback. For you, the result proves in black and white that the Bavarian hub is continuously refining its first-class comfort for travelers and vacationers.
Munich outranks Frankfurt in the rankings

Previously, Munich Airport had been in the news more for relaxed carry-on baggage rules, alleged Puma sightings, or construction plans for the Munich Arena. Now, this excellent ranking crowns Munich Airport and impressively demonstrates the quality of the Bavarian hub. The Bavarian Franz-Josef-Strauß Airport not only shines on a regional level but also ranks among the very best on a continental scale.
In the online portal’s Europe-wide ranking, Munich secured an outstanding second place, which the state capital shares with Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport. Only London Heathrow fared even better across Europe, while Istanbul and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport round out the top 5. In the regional DACH ranking, Munich even managed to edge out its biggest German competitor, relegating Frankfurt am Main to second place. In a global comparison, however, the Munich hub has not yet reached the very top. At the international level, locations in Asia in particular dominate the top of the field.
Munich lounge ranks among the top 5 in Europe

Another category proves that you can not only depart on time from the airport but also relax in style before your flight. Among facilities operated independently of airlines, the Airport Lounge World in Terminal 1 ranked fifth in all of Europe. Spanning 1,200 square meters across two floors, it offers private relaxation zones, bistros, workspaces, meditation rooms, and reading areas. Whether you’re answering business emails before your flight or simply unwinding, Munich Airport has been proven to offer first-class amenities for your journey.
