Imagine an entire city traveling back in time by centuries. It is precisely this unique feeling that will soon come to life again in Bavaria. At one of Europe’s largest historical festivals, the dream of the late Middle Ages will soon become reality once more for thousands of people. In the summer of 2027, the setting at the foot of Trausnitz Castle will once again be transformed into a magnificent festival grounds. From June 25 to July 18, 2027, the legendary Landshut Wedding of 1475 will be celebrated here once again after a four-year hiatus. The highly sought-after application period for more than 2,500 historical roles is currently underway.
How to Become the Royal Bride and Groom of the Landshut Wedding
Participants are being sought for a wide variety of roles, ranging from princely entourages to noblewomen and court ladies, as well as pageboys and groups of children. However, anyone wishing to participate must meet a few requirements. Residency in the city or district of Landshut is mandatory, as is a historically accurate hairstyle. All applicants must therefore start growing out their hair now in order to resemble medieval citizens as closely as possible.
After the application deadline at the end of October, suitable candidates may audition in person before the committee of the organizing association “Die Förderer” e.V. starting January 8. Although thousands of extra roles will be cast, you’ll search in vain for two very specific characters on the official application form. You cannot audition directly for the lead roles of the Polish princess Hedwig and Duke George the Rich. Stefan Härtl, chairman of the casting committee, explains that selecting the future royal couple involves a special process. Candidates first apply for a suitable age group, such as the noble ladies or young noblemen. Only from among these applications does the association’s board, behind closed doors, select the two lead actors who will ultimately perform in Landshut.
