Reading is a wonderful hobby, and thanks to BookTok and similar platforms, it’s currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity, especially among young people. But with a constant stream of new books coming out, it can quickly get expensive . Libraries can help, but they aren’t a real alternative for collectors. But don’t worry—even in an expensive city like Munich, you can get new books at affordable prices. The texxt bookstore on Sendlinger Straße offers books in every genre at prices that are easy on your wallet.
Low prices thanks to minor flaws

At first glance, texxt looks just like any other bookstore: a small selection of books is displayed outside, alongside stands with postcards. So far, so normal. But if you take a look at the prices, you’ll quickly realize that texxt is significantly cheaper than other bookstores. And yet, the store doesn’t sell secondhand items—only brand-new books. However, almost all of the books at texxt are damaged copies, which is why they’re discounted and aren’t subject to fixed book prices. This means there may be minor damage to the cover or the book’s edges, but the books themselves are in perfect condition inside.
If you don’t mind minor scratches or creases, then texxt is a real jackpot for you. You can get all paperbacks for half price, and hardcovers are also significantly cheaper. Prices start as low as just €2, so you’ll find something even on a tight budget. Plus, you can order new books directly from the bookstore and usually pick them up the very next day. And in the primatexxt online store, you can browse through the store’s selection and have the items delivered right to your door. That way, you can shop for books at great prices even if you don’t live in Munich.
Paradise in the Basement
The retail space on texxt’s ground floor is quite small. The real heart of the store lies one floor below in the basement, which you reach via a staircase. This staircase is lined on both sides with shelves containing mostly children’s books. At the foot of the stairs, another wall of shelves awaits you—you can browse through them first before climbing the last few steps to paradise. In the center of the room are tables piled high with books, while the shelves along the walls reach all the way up to the ceiling.
texxt focuses on art, photography, and fiction, but you’ll find just about every genre here. In addition to current novels, there are plenty of classics and, above all, plenty of Reclam paperbacks. You’ll also find cookbooks, travel guides, biographies, and all sorts of other exciting and interesting titles. The store also carries a small selection of non-German-language books as well as a few manga titles. And even though everything seems a bit chaotic, the books are actually organized. Around 30,000 books are waiting to be discovered at texxt—an absolute must-visit for book lovers!
