When you think of affordable furniture, a certain Swedish furniture store probably comes to mind right away. And even though we love it more than anything, Pax and Kallax aren’t exactly the coolest pieces of furniture you can buy. Since 2011, the Munich-based company Westwing has been proving that there’s another way.Here, elegant, modern design meets reasonable prices, so you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your home look chic. This weekend, the new Westwing flagship store in downtown Munich is officially opening and celebrating the occasion with you.
A Bavarian Success Story
Just 15 years ago, Westwing was founded in Munich and has since firmly established itself in the international home furnishings market. The company now has over 1,200 employees, operates in 23 European countries, and reported revenue of 507 million euros in 2025. It has always remained loyal to Munich as its headquarters and opened a brick-and-mortar store here last year on Amiraplatz. The store has now moved to Residenzstraße and has expanded in the process —from 270 to 400 square meters.
Westwing is primarily an e-commerce company, and furniture shopping takes place mainly online. But for several years now, there have been more and more brick-and-mortar stores in various German cities where you can try out the furniture before buying and get a more realistic, visual impression. You still place your order online, though—it’s as simple as scanning a QR code. That way, the furniture is conveniently delivered right to your door, and you don’t have to worry about transportation.
Opening Celebration for the New Westwing Flagship Store
The soft opening of the new Westwing flagship store has already taken place, so you can already shop for furniture and decor at Residenzstraße 24. However, the official opening won’t take place until Saturday, September 12, 2026, starting at 11 a.m. To celebrate the occasion, a DJ will be spinning tunes for you, and there will be ice cream from Bartu, the organic ice cream maker in Schwabing. And as if that weren’t cool enough, you can also look forward to beautiful floral gifts. In the evening, the festivities will continue with an exclusive private party open only to invited guests.
Before that, you have until 4 p.m. to join the public celebration and get your first look at the new Westwing flagship store. Get an overview of the product range and consult with the in-house design service if you have any questions. Unlike the old, temporary store at Amiraplatz, the new store is here to stay. So there’s no rush—you can take your time making your home decor decisions.
