Soon, Munich will be one shop poorer: Following Wormland on Marienplatz and the Mücke Outlet in Einstein, the traditional Suckfüll store is now joining the list of closures in 2026. With this, Maxvorstadt is losing a true institution that was deeply cherished by its regular customers. But it’s not quite over yet. Suckfüll will remain open for a few more months and, until then, is enticing customers with attractive offers in its going-out-of-business sale.
No turning back
In 1932, Karl Suckfüll and his brother Stefan founded a specialty store for hardware and household goods on Türkenstraße. Ninety-four years later, grandson Wolfgang runs the store as the third generation —though not for much longer. At the end of July, the family business will close its doors for good, and there’s no turning back. Even if his children had wanted to take over, Wolfgang would have advised them against it. Retail is dying, he says in an interview with the SZ.
Competition from online retailers and tempting non-food offerings at regular grocery stores is simply too great. Furthermore , DIY enthusiasts rarely venture into Maxvorstadt anymore, as the immediate vicinity consists almost exclusively of restaurants. Added to this is general consumer reluctance due to several global crises. Thus, after poor Christmas sales, owner Wolfgang decided in December to close Suckfüll.
Everything for the home, crafts, and DIY

Suckfüll offers a wide range of products. Across 1,000 square meters, you’ll find more than 30,000 products and household goods. From tools and screws to pots, dishes, and food storage containers, you’ll find everything you need for your home. The clearance sale has been underway since May 6 and will continue until the store closes at the end of July. So if you need something for your home or enjoy DIY projects, now is your chance to take advantage of the significant discounts of 20% or more.
Furthermore, Suckfüll won’t be disappearing entirely. Even though the brick-and-mortar store is closing, the business will continue to offer its services in the areas of access control systems, locking systems, and mailbox and doorbell systems. Should you ever want to have an alarm system installed in the future, you’ll know who to turn to.
