This year, Easter falls in early April, and as always, you can look forward to a long weekend. To ensure you can celebrate in a relaxed manner, whether at home or at the Easter Festival in the Olympiapark, it’s best to get all your shopping done before the holidays. But if you happen to have forgotten something or simply didn’t get around to it in time, there’s no need to panic. Despite the holidays, some stores are open, so shopping over Easter is no problem at all.
Shopping on Easter: These rules apply

When it comes to Easter, there’s often confusion about which days are actually holidays and which aren’t. Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday are regular weekdays when people work and stores are open as usual. However, experience shows that Thursday in particular tends to be very busy, so you’ll need to be patient.
On Good Friday and Easter Monday, stores are closed because these are legal holidays. Easter Sunday, on the other hand, is not a legal holiday, but it is a Sunday, which is why you can’t shop as usual then either.
Exceptions to opening hours during Easter

Even though most stores aren’t allowed to open, you still don’t have to give up shopping entirely. Exceptions apply to retailers at airports and train stations that sell food and everyday necessities. Shopping is possible there on Easter and other holidays. In Munich, you have several options available if you need to pick something up urgently. This way, you can look forward to the weekend with peace of mind.
If you’re short on groceries, the Rewe at the airport and the two Edeka stores at Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhof are your best bets. Additionally, the Lidl at Hackerbrücke has been open on Sundays since last September and is still considered an insider tip, though you should expect shorter hours. At Ostbahnhof, there’s also a dm store, which, in addition to hygiene and household items, carries a selection of groceries that goes beyond the usual dm assortment. Shopping is also possible at Easter in some bakeries and kiosks, as well as at all Aral gas stations with Rewe To Go.
