From Munich, you can get anywhere quickly. And you don’t even have to take a plane: You can be in Italy or the Alps in no time at all by express train. The most comfortable way to travel is by night train – go to sleep in Munich and wake up on vacation! And the good news is: There will soon be a new connection. From December 14, you can travel overnight from Munich to Poland.
Overnight from Munich to Poland
The EuroNight (EN) “Carpatia” (operated by PKP Intercity) will take you through four countries in a single, approximately 16-hour journey. This new, daily train connection crosses four countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. You start in Przemyśl in the late afternoon (approx. 17:51) and reach Munich main station the next morning (approx. 10:24).
The new overnight train is what is known as a scheduled train, which means that it is split during the journey. This means that different destinations can be reached. After the start in Przemyśl and a stop in Krakow, the train travels to Bohumín station in the Czech Republic. There it is split: One part continues as a south-east axis in the direction of Budapest and Bratislava. The second part, which is relevant for travelers to Germany (the western axis), continues its journey via Austria.
Important stops on the way to Germany are the main stations of Vienna, Linz and Salzburg, before the train finally ends in Munich. The return journey departs from Munich main station at around 18:45 in the evening.
How to book the new night train

16 hours on the train is a lot, even if it’s overnight. But the operators of the EuroNight “Carpatia” are aware of this. Like many other night trains from Munich, this one also offers you different comfort classes to make the long journey more pleasant. You can choose between seats for shorter journeys or sleep in a couchette car. There are compartments for 4, 5 or 6 people and even single, double or triple compartments – optionally even with a shower. However, you will have to dig a little deeper into your pockets.
It is not yet known exactly how much it will cost. However, you will soon be able to book your trip via the Interrail or Austrian Federal Railways websites. If you want to travel to Poland in the new year or see the famous Czech Christmas markets this winter, you can plan your trip from December 14!
