Away from Bavaria’s spectacular cascades, such as the Röthbachfall or the Kuhflucht waterfalls, there are also smaller, quieter natural oases that captivate visitors more with their beauty than with their height. The Glasbach Waterfall in Jachenau is one such place where you can enjoy the special idyll and the unique view . From Munich, this natural gem is an ideal destination for a day trip that can be combined with a short hike.
Natural Gem

The Glasbach Waterfall may not be as high as other Bavarian waterfalls, nor does it necessarily impress with its width, like the Geratser Waterfall in the Allgäu. Nevertheless, this natural spectacle is well worth a visit, because unlike at other locations, the water does not fall freely into the basin but flows over the coarse main dolomite. As it does so, the water spreads into a wide fan, reminiscent of a white veil, and forms small cascades. The view is truly breathtaking and lets you forget the daily grind.
To reach the Glasbach Waterfall, start right in Jachenau near Bad Tölz, from where a well-marked trail leads directly to your destination. Along the way, you’ll cross bridges and footbridges, walk along the crystal-clear stream, and enjoy a bit of forest bathing. If you’re up for a proper swim, venture into the waterfall’s pool in the summer—it’s sure to cool you off. Those of you who aren’t quite as hardy can simply dip your feet in the cold water.
