When people think of open-air movie theaters, they usually picture balmy summer nights. But just outside Munich, a traditional, iconic spot proves that enjoying movies under the open sky can be even cozier in winter. The DRIVE IN Drive-In Movie Theater in Munich-Aschheim, which has been delighting movie fans since 1969, kicks off the festive Advent season. Starting November 28, 2026, the popular Advent cinema awaits you every Saturday during Advent at 5:30 p.m. with festive movie highlights for the whole family. You certainly won’t have to freeze in a cold car, because free space heaters are available on site so you can get cozy in your car seats.
These cult classics will be shown on the Advent Saturdays
On Saturdays during Advent, true classics will flicker across the giant screen, perfectly setting the mood for the holidays. Kicking things off on November 28, 2026, is the wintery animated adventure “Niko: Journey to the Northern Lights,” in which the famous reindeer sets out to save Christmas. On December 5, 2026, a very special highlight awaits you. To go along with the comedy “Home Alone,” Santa Claus himself will stop by the drive-in, accompanied by a wheel of fortune, sweet surprises, and Christmas music. A week later, on December 12, 2026, the sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” will follow, before the chaotic Griswold family provides hearty laughs in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” on the fourth Saturday of Advent, December 19, 2026.
