As is well known, Germany’s “Hollywood” is located in Brandenburg, home to Babelsberg, Europe’s largest film studio. But Bavaria has nothing to be ashamed of either, as we can call the Bavaria Film Studios our own. They’re located in the Munich suburb of Grünwald, where the rich and famous live and bring a bit of Hollywood flair to our region. The studios also include Bavaria Filmstadt, which is open to interested visitors and offers you a glimpse into the world of filmmaking.
In the world of film and television

Bavaria Film GmbH has been in existence since 1919 and is now one of Germany’s leading production facilities and one of the largest in all of Europe. Great stars such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, and Elizabeth Taylor have worked on their films here. The Bavaria Film Studios have produced many famous films, such as *The Neverending Story*—for which scenes were shot at the old Floriansmühlbad in Munich—*(T)Raumschiff Surprise*, and *Das Boot*.
The production company’s grounds cover an area of 300,000 m² or 30 hectares, which includes Bavaria Filmstadt. This attraction offers you insights into film production and invites you to marvel at real movie sets. One of the most iconic sets at Bavaria Filmstadt is undoubtedly the submarine from *Das Boot*, which is based on the true story of Buchheim. Other famous locations include the classroom from “Fack Ju Göthe,” Sarastro’s palace from “The Magic Flute,” and, most recently, the set from Bully’s “Das Kanu des Manitu.” You can also take a ride on the back of Fuchur, the lucky dragon from “The Neverending Story.” These and other locations and props await you.
Attractions at Bavaria Filmstadt

The highlight of Bavaria Filmstadt is undoubtedly the studio tour, which includes a visit to the film sets. During a guided tour lasting about 90 minutes, you’ll learn fascinating facts and get a behind-the-scenes look at well-known films and TV shows. But there are even more highlights waiting for you on campus. Become an actor or actress yourself and prove your skills in front of the camera. Step into the shoesof the “Rosenheim Cops” as you interrogate suspects in the interrogation room, or travel to fantastical worlds thanks to the green screen.
In the 4D cinema, on the other hand, you’ll enjoy a particularly immersive movie experience thanks to effects right in the theater. It gets even more interactive with the virtual reality game, where you throw yourself into the adventure. On Halloween, a spooky version awaits you, and you can also venture on a spine-chilling tour full of live performances. But a visit to Bavaria Filmstadt is worth it any time of year. On your birthday, you also get free admission, no matter how old you are.
