Bavaria is home to numerous famous natural attractions that draw tourists from all over the world, such as the Partnach Gorge, Lake Königsee, and the Röthbach Falls. But even beyond these well-known destinations, there are scenic gems to discover where you’ll be (almost) all alone. The Arzmoos Waterfall is one such place that many people don’t even know about. Take a lovely walk and relax at the foot of this natural landmark.
The tranquility of nature
The Arzbach River flows through the Mangfall Mountains and winds its way through the Arzmoos. At the foot of the Jackelberg, it plunges over a valley step, forming the Arzmoss Waterfall. It covers 30 meters in this way, offering a truly beautiful spectacle. In summer, the gentle mist provides a cooling effect; in winter, the waterfall sometimes freezes and transforms into a dreamlike scene of icicles.
If you’re looking to really unwind, the Arzmoos Waterfall is the perfect destination for you. There are no crowds here, and the sound of the water creates a pleasant atmosphere. Take a short break while the waterfall glistens in the sun before you. Or try to spot one of the nearby tunnel entrances , which hint at the area’s mining history.
The Little-Known Arzmoos Waterfall
The Arzmoos Waterfall can safely be called a true hidden gem. The online search results alone speak for themselves: five pages on Google—so it’s quite manageable. The chances that you’ll have the waterfall all to yourselves during your visit are therefore quite high. The detour is definitely worth it, and from Munich, you can get there in just over an hour. You can park your car for free at the nearby parking lot and take a roughly 10-minute walk from there to the Arzmoos Waterfall.
From here, you can continue hiking to the Jackelberg Alm and stop for a break. It’s about three-quarters of an hour from the waterfall, so by the end you’ll have completed a nice hike. In addition, there are numerous other hiking trails that lead through the Arzmoos and offer beautiful views of the surrounding Mangfall Mountains. The waterfall thus makes for a great stop along a longer hike.
