Around 75,000 spectators cheered, celebrated, and applauded when Adele interrupted her concert in Munich on August 3, 2024, right in the middle of the set: She had the women’s 100-meter Olympic final broadcast live from Paris onto the giant screen. It was the second night of her Munich residency, which had begun on August 2.
The night before, Adele had already said she was rooting for U.S. sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. Richardson finished second. Julien Alfred from St. Lucia won the gold, and Adele asked the crowd to applaud the winner. She had performed at the Neue Messe München convention center, where a dedicated arena with seating for around 80,000 people had been set up for the ten concert evenings in August 2024.
The residency is long over, but her songs are returning to Munich: performed by a string quartet by candlelight. As a tribute to the British singer, the “Candlelight: Tribute to Adele” event is taking place in Munich.

Auferstehungskirche München
A church built in 1931 serving as a concert hall
The Auferstehungskirche at Gollierstraße 55 is one of the largest Protestant churches in the city. It was designed by architect German Bestelmeyer and opened in 1931 with 800 seats.
The organ dates from the same year. It was built by the firm E. F. Walcker & Cie. and has 42 stops across three manuals and a pedalboard. At this concert, however, the string quartet takes center stage, and the only light comes from the glow of thousands of candles.
The concert lasts 60 minutes. The setlist includes “Hello,” “Rumor Has It,” “Someone Like You,” “Chasing Pavements,” “Skyfall,” “Easy on Me,” and “Rolling in the Deep.” The same setlist is also scheduled for the St. Matthäus Church.
